Eye-poem pointers
We are so pleased that we had more Eye-Poems than we have ever had this time.. Even if your students did not win an award, they won because they tried. As you know, judging any kind of art contest is very subjective. There were far too many good entries for all to receive awards. We regret that, but we appreciate your efforts.
Please try again. We have one Poetry Society of Tennessee student contest in February plus Grandmother Earth Student Contest with an October 1 deadline. There will be different judges, which will mean appreciation for different styles . I am enclosing a few pointers for the Eye-Poem:
- Do not use tiny letters or words generated from the computer. The form was invented by Kenneth L. Beaudoin because advertisements had such beautiful imagery compared to the way poetry was often printed.
- The poem should be attractive and easy to read from about three feet.
- The poem should be no larger than 8 1/2 x 11 inches for easy reproduction.
- No words or images should be too close to the edge of the paper.
- Computer color copies of the poem are fine to enter, but no words should be on the edge of the paper.
- Names should not be on the front of the Eye-Poem, but on the back covered by a file card or a small piece of paper.
- Each teacher should send a cover sheet including teacher's name, school or schools, email, grade level of the students entering and a contact telephone number.
- NEATNESS IS IMPORTANT. IF WORDS EXTEND OVER THE EDGE OR IF OBJECTS OTHER THAN WORDS OR IMAGES FROM MAGAZINES ARE GLUED TO THE POEM, IT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
