Grandmother Earth was established in 1993 in memory of Gladys Bullard, the maternal grandmother of Frances Brinkley Cowden. An annual national writing contest with publication of the winners was foundeded. The poems and stories in each issue express a love of and a concern for the natural beauty of this earth, its people and their heritage. Because of the writing styles and viewpoints, each issue is valuable for creative writing studies. Other books have also been published, the most popular have been The Southern Railway from Stevenson to Memphis by Jack Daniel and View from a Mississippi River Cotton Sack by Frances Brinkley Cowden.  See the Book Store for more information about these and other books.

Life Press was founded a year later to publish Christian books. In 1998 the first Christian Writers conference was held at Colonial Park United Methodist Church in Memphis. This year the 12th anniversary was celebrated at Covenant UMC in Cordova, TN. Key-note speakers have included  Dr. Michael Ripski, Phyllis Tickle, David Waters, Robert Hall, Pat Laster, Dr. Donald McKim, Alice Faye Duncan, Fran Miller and Dr. Brenda (Dr. B) Caldwell.

The keynote speaker for our 2010 Life Press Conference is Linda Douty.

Our staff includes several volunteers including Mary Frances Broome, Masoud Zarshenas and Marcelle Nia.
